    Book details

Engineering Science will help you understand the scientific principles involved in engineering.

Focusing primarily upon core mechanical and electrical science topics, students enrolled on an Engineering Foundation degree and Higher National Engineering qualification will find this book an invaluable aid to their learning.

The subject matter covered includes sections on the mechanics of solids, dynamics, thermodynamics, electrostatics and electromagnetic principles, and AC and DC circuit theory.

Knowledge-check questions, summary sections and activities are included throughout the book, and the necessary background mathematics is applied and integrated alongside the appropriate areas of engineering being studied. The result is a clear, straightforward and easily accessible textbook that encourages independent study and covers most of the scientific principles that students are likely to meet at this level.

It is supported with a companion website at for students and lecturers:

  • Solutions to the Test your Knowledge questions in the book
  • Further guidance on essential mathematics
  • Extra chapters on vapour properties, cycles and plants
  • Downloadable SCILAB scripts that helps simplify advanced mathematical content

Just as expect all the information for research on my HND

I'm in the first year of my sub sea engineering degree and have recently had an exam only to realise that the exam question on beam was straight out of the book so I was pleased I had read it as obviously my tutor does too!! My partner is a hydraulic engineer after studying mechanical and manufacturing engineering for his degree and is in his 2nd year of work and also finds the book helpful to keep his knowledge and check up on things he isn't familiar with.

This book is STREWN with errors. The photos I've added are from examples 19.4, 19.5, 19.11 and 19.14. See how they botched the working but got the right answer in the last one? The online resource that accompanies the Test Your Knowledge questions has just the final answers (as opposed to fully developed solutions) and quite a few of these are wrong. I've read similar reviews for other books by the same publisher. Unacceptable.

Usable but because of how bad it is formatted . Navigating the book is simply fell bad and slow. Making a problem to use in class

It has all the essential topics in the subject with adequate depth to students studying a engineering foundation degree/ hnc.
